If someone were to ask me to describe myself in one word, I would use the word compassionate. I have dedicated my life to making sure the people around me feel welcomed and appreciated. I love helping other people, and being the light that brightens their whole day.

One avenue that gives myself the opportunity to impact people in a positive way is through the Miss America Organization. The Miss America Organization is all about serving the community and giving back to those who need it most. One organization I am able to work closely with, through the Miss America Organization, is the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (the national platform of the organization). I really enjoy being able to visit with the children in the hospitals, and motivate them to continue pushing forward.

Another reason I enjoy being a part of the Miss America Organization, is because everyday I have the opportunity to inspire little girls to dream big. This is meaningful to me because when I was younger, I was insecure and shy. Now, as a title holder, I get to showcase the confidence the organization has provided me with to other girls who can relate to my obstacle. Knowing that I could possibly be changing a little girl’s life for the better is the most humbling thing.

On a different note, through my volunteer work I have gained a passion for special needs children. With this passion, I have been able to mentor two girls with Down’s Syndrome at a special needs pageant, volunteer at a “Step Up for Down’s Syndrome” walk, volunteer at a special needs camp called SCAMP, volunteer for the Special Olympics, mentor an individual through Best Buddies, and take part in a special needs prom called a “Night to Shine.” I burst with happiness when I work with individuals with special needs, they show me that tangible items are meaningless. Life is about doing what you love while being surrounded by love.

I also feel like I am at my best when I am surrounded by family. They are people I know will always support me in everything I do, and encourage me to put my best foot forward in all that I take part in. My family has shaped me into the person I am today, and has instilled values in myself that I will be able to take with me for the rest of my life. If it were not for my family, I would not be the person I am today, and would not have the amount of opportunities that exist in my life.

In conclusion, my passions are what drive and motivate me everyday. They are the reason I wake up motivated to inspire the people around me. My passions provide my life with purpose.
