Since I was ten years old, I have been a competitor in the Miss America Organization. I held a local title in the Outstanding Teen program for four consecutive years, and then in 2015 I was crowned Miss Michigan’s Outstanding Teen. I have now entered the “miss” stage of the program, and am currently representing my hometown as Miss St. Clair Shores 2016.
The Miss America Organization is based around four different points; service, style, success, and scholarship. Through the organization, I have the opportunity to promote my personal platform, Confidence: The Pathway to Success. My platform is all about encouraging girls to feel confident in their own skin, since that was something I struggled with for such a long time. I love being a part of the Miss America Organization because it is an avenue to promote things I am passionate about, and be a figure young girls can aspire to be like.
All my life I have loved working with individuals with special needs. They remind me of the importance of living every moment to its fullest and appreciating the wonderful little things each day brings. When I found out Central Michigan had a chapter of Best Buddies, I knew I had to get involved. Through Best Buddies, I have had the opportunity to build a friendship and be a mentor for a 65-year old woman with special needs. This organization perfectly reflects my values and beliefs in life, the importance of inspiring all individuals to believe their life is important and that they can be anything with perseverance.
I chose to get involved with the Communication Association at CMU because I am planning on going into a communications related field in my future career. I thought being a part of the organization would be a great way for me to network with people interested in communications, and learn more about the field.
When I went away to school, I knew I wanted to become more involved with my religion. I believe understanding your faith helps bring more purpose and meaning to your life. Being a part of Chi Alpha has been such a blessing for me. It has allowed me to find a group of people who are genuine and kind, and has allowed faith to be more present in my life.
